  Wooster School is excited to announce guest speaker, Jim Saint Germain, an author and activist, who will be speaking at Wooster on Monday, January 29, 2018.

Jim will be joining the Wooster Community, for a meet the author discussion event. He will be sharing his story beginning at 6 p m and then the evening will open up into a Q and A opportunity for the audience. This event is free and open to the entire community. Western Connecticut State Univeristy Gallery to present ‘Parallel Practices’ exhibition this winter

Works in diverse mediums, by 11 artists will be featured from Jan. 25 to March 4 at the Western Connecticut State University Gallery.
Eleven critically acclaimed artists who work in more than one medium will participate this winter in Parallel Practices, an exhibition that will run from Thursday, January 25, through Sunday, March 4, 2018, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center Art Gallery at Western Connecticut State University.

Parallel Practices, will showcase present the participating artists’ works in mediums that include painting, sculpture, collage, drawing, ceramics, animation, installation and photography.

Reservations are required for an opening reception which will be held from 6 to 8 pm on January 25 in the V-PAC Art Gallery on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The exhibition will be open for public viewing during gallery hours from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A closing reception and Art Gallery walk will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on March 4. You will not want to miss the Danbury Museum's fourth annual Hat City Ball on Friday, January twentysixth, 2018! This year, the Ball has a speakeasy theme, and will be featuring fun new activities, like a wine pull, and a Prohibition Prize Pull.
The Hat City Ball, the museum's major fund-raiser, is sponsored by The Friends of the Danbury Museum. The money raised at the Ball benefits the Danbury Museum and Historical Society, and helps support the mission of acquiring, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting Danbury's past.

CULTURAL ALLIANCE OF WESTERN CONNECTICUT KICKS OFF 2018 "ACCESSIBLE ART" SERIES ON FEBRUARY 5TH

The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut will kick off a new year of its multi-site series of visual art shows, Accessible Art, on Monday, February 5th. With five rounds of exhibitions spread over the course of twenty eighteen, Accessible Art will provide those who live, work, and play in, or visit, the Greater Danbury region with a sense of the importance of Art in our everyday lives. This round of Accessible Art runs through Friday, April 13th.

Classic Movie Matinee Jan 21

  Just as in days gone bye, The Palace Danbury will be the place for Sunday afternoon movies.
On January 21st the Hearst Media Film Club sponsors And You Thought You Knew Classic Movies. Film historian John DiLeo will present a Film Journey Through Hollywood and America at 2:00 PM.

DiLeo's presentation is a fun, informative, and idiosyncratic history of Hollywood’s Golden Age, while telling a parallel story of America itself. During this multi-media event, DiLeo will spotlight film clips from movies featuring many of Hollywood’s great stars.

The Female Perspective works by KAREN BONANNO

January Twenty, Twenty eighteen is the opening art exhibit at 287 Gallery.

Each work starts with a figurative gesture that is either invented from memory or interpreted from sketches of the figure. Through expressive mark making and color choice, the figure is formed and solidified in its environment, whether it be an interior, exterior or ambiguous atmospheric space. Influences are the artists of the Bay Area Figurative movement including, David Park, Richard Deibenkorn and Elmer Bischoff as well as Cezanne, Bonnard and Matisse.

Western Connecticut State Univeristy Gallery to present ‘Parallel Practices’ exhibition this winter

Works in diverse mediums, by 11 artists will be featured from Jan. 25 to March 4 at the Western Connecticut State University Gallery.
Eleven critically acclaimed artists who work in more than one medium will participate this winter in Parallel Practices, an exhibition that will run from Thursday, January 25, through Sunday, March 4, 2018, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center Art Gallery at Western Connecticut State University.

Parallel Practices, will showcase present the participating artists’ works in mediums that include painting, sculpture, collage, drawing, ceramics, animation, installation and photography.

Reservations are required for an opening reception which will be held from 6 to 8 pm on January 25 in the V-PAC Art Gallery on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Returning for its third year, friends of the Ives, will present Art at Ives, a Juried Fine Art and Crafts Show. This two day show opens in June.

Continuing to increase access to visual arts in the Greater Danbury Community, the show features accomplished artists from across the nation. Artists apply at zapplication dot org. All major categories are included with high-quality original works, in a diverse scope of art forms, from painting and digital art to fiber, paper, and drawing. They receive no funding from the State of Connecticut or any other government agency, and rely on four sources for funding: direct admission and/or event ticket sales, merchandise sales in the Gift Shop, grants, and donations. Library Card Design Contest Submission Deadline: February sixteenth at 5pm

Get your art materials out and your creativity flowing. The Danbury Library wants you to design the next generation of library cards! The competition is open to Students, Kindergarten to grade 12.
Design a colorful card, either using traditional materials, or in a digital medium. Your original artwork must fit inside a horizontal rectangle measuring 8 by 5 inches and be free of copyright restrictions. For full details of design guidelines, go to danburylibrary dot org.
The library judging panel will choose two winning designs, one from a student in Kindergarten to grade 5, and another from grades 6 to 12. Each winner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card.

CERTIFIED FOOD PROTECTION MANAGER COURSE Throughout 2018

The Culinary Arts gets limited attention here at the Danbury Cultural Commission. But that doesn’t mean those arts are not well represented in the City. And to be a part of that art scene you need certifications. To help, the Department of Health and Human Services, offers a Certified Food Manager course, developed by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals. The Certified Food Manager course meets the Connecticut Public Health Code requirements for Qualified Food Operator Certification for food service establishments. Certified Food Manager Certificate and re-certification program fees are one hundred sixty dollars per person. The 8 hour class includes a textbook, examination, and certificate of completion.

Auditions 2018 Danbury Music Centre's Madrigal Singers

  Danbury Music Centre's Madrigal Singers auditions will be held January 4, 2018 from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Marian Anderson Recital Hall, 256 Main Street Danbury, Connecticut. There are openings for sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. Please call the DMC for an appointment 203-748-1716.

Auditions are open to the public as well as to DMC members, ages 16 and up.

Singers are asked to bring a solo piece of music sung in your range (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass Baritone) that shows your vocal range, voice quality and expression and be prepared to sing 16 measures (no pop music please!) For example, you could sing the Star Spangled Banner, a folk song, or a piece performed with the Community Chorus.
