This year marks the One hundred twenty fifth birthday of Marian Anderson. Find out a little about this Danbury resident, world famous contralto, and a lifetime member of the Danbury Cultural Commission.

Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner, pianist, Danbury Concert Association March 2022

 The Danbury Concert Association offers virtuoso performances, in a pitch-perfect setting. The first concert of the season is Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner, pianist, on Sunday, March Twentieth, Twenty Twenty Two, at three PM.

All performances take place on Sunday afternoons at the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall, located in the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the Western Connecticut State University’s Westside Campus in Danbury, Connecticut. The remaining two concerts for this season will be in April and May.

The Cameraman film at Saint Peter 2022

  

  

  Step back in time to an era of the silent film, Friday February Twenty Eighth. Come to Saint Peter Church to see the romantic comedy, The Cameraman, starring Buster Keaton and Marceline Day. This Nineteen Twenty Eight comedy classic will have Boston-based organist, Peter Krasinski, returning to St. Peter Church to accompany this film LIVE on the mighty Peregallo Pipe Organ. Doors at the church St Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury, open at 7 PM for the 7:30 performance. General Admission is $20.00. There are Special prices for couples, seniors, students and families.

What is the Danbury Cultural Commission

 The Danbury Cultural Commission is the citizen's voice for supporting cultural and artistic events in Danbury. They support and help fund performing arts programs for Danbury residents free of charge. The eleven-member Commission supports the development of new arts programs and supports and funds local arts, cultural and ethnic activities. The Commission also encourages, promotes and co-sponsors events which benefit and improve the quality of life for Danbury residents. Poetry Contest for 2022

The Danbury Cultural Commission announces that City high school students in grades nine through twelve are invited to submit their writing for the annual Poetry Contest. The contest is also open to any writers who do not formally attend a high school but are between the ages of fourteen through eighteen. Any high school aged student, studying in, or living in Danbury, may enter, but a winning student must have a social security number filed with the City of Danbury to receive a cash prize.

Poems may be Any theme or form of verse, may not exceed 200 lines, and use school-appropriate language and subject matter. No more than two poems per author should be submitted. Poems in non-English must have a written English translation. The deadline for entries is March twenty second. Students of winning submissions should be prepared to read the poem aloud and then give a brief description of their inspiration for it at the May literary awards ceremony.
