What is the Danbury Cultural Commission

The Danbury Cultural Commission is the citizen's voice for supporting cultural and artistic events in Danbury. They support and help fund performing arts programs for Danbury residents free of charge. The eleven-member Commission supports the development of new arts programs and supports and funds local arts, cultural and ethnic activities. The Commission also encourages, promotes and co-sponsors events which benefit and improve the quality of life for Danbury residents. Flash fiction 2023

The Danbury Cultural Commission has begun the annual literary contest. Submissions of flash fiction are being accepted until March 13, 2023. 

The Danbury Cultural Commission invites Danbury students in grades 9 through 12 to enter our Flash Fiction Contest. The contest is also open to any writers who do not formally attend a high school but are between the ages of 14 through 18. Any high school aged student may enter, but a student must have a social security number filed with the City of Danbury to receive a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place cash prize.

The entries must be Flash Fiction from 500 to 1000 words, school-appropriate language and subject matter are required. No more than two Flash Fiction works per author should be submitted, and Flash Fiction in non-English must have a written English translation. Entries will be anonymized then judged, with prizes awarded in May. Students of winning submissions must be prepared to read the story aloud and then give a brief (50 word) description of their inspiration for it. All entries may be published by the Cultural Commission.

Danbury Concert Association Spring concert March 12, 3PM

The Danbury Concert association brings the Daedalus Quartet to the City on Sunday, March twelfth, Twenty Twenty three, at three pm. The Quartet is Named after the fabled craftsman of Greek mythology, features four virtuoso players known for pristine technique, inventive interpretations, and musicial artistry. 

Performances take place at the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the WCSU Westside Campus. Tickets to individual concerts at twenty five dollars per adult will go on sale within two weeks of each performance. To purchase, call the WCSU box office of visit eventbrite.
